Carina Lue (born 1989) is a German sculptor and painter who currently lives and works in Berlin and on Sicily. She has studied at the University of Fine Arts, Hamburg in the Department of Sculpture under Thomas Demand. She makes paintings which navigate the sculptural potential inherent in canvas, thereby challenging conventional notions of art production and a deeper contemplation of the nature of representation and spatiality within the contemporary art discourse. Lue describes herself not as a painter, but a conceptual artist for whom painting is an intrinsic part of her creative process. Her sculptural perspective is palpably evident in her repetitive artistic process, wherein she examines the physical and conceptual nuances of how images are stored and conveyed.
